Overview:
It is possible to Upload and Download Blackboard files on the iPad. This document will take you
through the steps to download and upload files.
iPad apps:
iUploader: To upload a file to Blackboard requires an additional app called iUploader or one
that performs the same function. There is a free version of the iUploader that works fairly well.
I have not tried the two versions that you purchase. The free version has advertisements on
the app pages. I have noticed a couple of bugs with the app but they were easy to get around.
Word Processor: You will need a word processor app to modify work sheets from Blackboard.
Apples Pages is available for $10. It works very well and will convert Microsoft Word
documents to / from Pages. There are other word processer apps available and you can try
them out but be sure they will work with Microsoft Word documents. Microsoft has a Word app
for the iPad which allows you to view word documents. To edit documents you must have a
Microsoft Office 365 license. While a student you may use your student office 365 login to
access the full version of Microsoft Word.

Spreadsheet: You will need a Spreadsheet app to modify work sheets from Blackboard.
Apples Numbers is available for $10. It works very well and will convert Microsoft Excel
spreadsheets to / from Numbers. There are other spreadsheet apps available and you can try
them out but be sure they will work with Microsoft Excel documents. Microsoft has an Excel
app for the iPad which allows you to view MS Excel spreadsheets. To edit spreadsheets you
must have a Microsoft Office 365 license. While a student you may use your student office 365
login to access the full version of Microsoft Excel.
Presentations: You will need a Presentation app to modify presentations from Blackboard.
Apples Keynote is available for $10. It works very well and will convert Microsoft PowerPoint
presentations to / from Keynote. There are other presentation apps available and you can try
them out but be sure they will work with Microsoft PowerPoint documents. Microsoft has an
PowerPoint app for the iPad which allows you to view MS PowerPoint presentations. To edit
presentations you must have a Microsoft Office 365 license. While a student you may use your
student office 365 login to access the full version of Microsoft PowerPoint.

Download Files from Blackboard to the iPad (Pages Version):
To download a file from Blackboard to the iPad requires that you access Blackboard from a web
browser on the iPad. You may use Safari, Chrome or Puffin. Puffin is a web browser that
supports Adobe Flash Player.
1. Open the web browser and browse to the Blackboard login screen. Log into the Blackboard
site. You should bookmark this page in your browser.
2. If you should receive an error message such as below select the Blackboard from your
bookmarks and the Blackboard Home screen will display correctly.

3. Navigate to the screen with the link to the worksheet that you want to download. Press on
the link and the document will open on the web site.
4. Press on Open in “Pages” or Open in …
Note: If this worksheet is an excel spreadsheet then Press on Open in “Numbers
If this worksheet is a PowerPoint presentation then Press on Open in KeyNote.

5. For this demonstration we will assume a Microsoft Word document and use Pages. You
may receive an import warning. If so press the Done button.
6. You may receive another Import Warning and if so press the Done button. The worksheet
will now show in the list of documents for pages. You may now use Pages to edit the
worksheet.

Upload Files from the iPad to Blackboard (Pages Version):
1. To begin the upload process press the document/arrow icon on the pages document list
screen and a menu will appear. Press on the Open in Another App.
2. Pages will display a Select a Document window. Press on the document you want to upload
into Blackboard.

3. A iPad dialog box will appear called Open in Another App. This dialog is asking what format
of document you want to upload. It should be either Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
4. A Processing Dialog box will appear. This conversion may take a few minutes.

5. Once the document has been converted the Dialog box will change asking you to choose an
app. Press the Choose App button.
6. A Scrollable window is displayed allowing you to select an App. Scroll over until you see the
Open in iUploader App and press it.

7. The document will open in the iUploader app. Press the Done button and the document will
close and a list of iUploader files will be displayed one of which is the worksheet we just
closed.
8. iUploader has its own web browser. You should bookmark the Blackboard login screen in
the iUploader web browser if you have not done so. If you need to navigate to the
Blackboard login screen, search for the Metro home page and select Blackboard.
9. Select Blackboard and the login screen will appear. Login to Blackboard.

10. The error screen may again appear during the login process. If so just press the Blackboard
bookmark again.
11. Navigate to the assignment dropbox. A new BROWSE button will appear.

12. Press the Browse button and the Select a File window is displayed. Press on the file that
you want to upload.
13. The file will upload and appear in the Blackboard dropbox.

14. The last step is to scroll to the bottom of the Blackboard screen and press the Submit
button. This now completes the upload process. You may now logout of Blackboard in
iUploader.

Download Files from Blackboard to the iPad (MS Office 365 Version):
To download a file from Blackboard to the iPad requires that you access Blackboard from a web
browser on the iPad. You may use Safari or Puffin. Puffin is a web browser that supports

site. You should bookmark this page in your browser.
2. If you should receive an error message such as below select the Blackboard from your

3. Navigate to the screen with the link to the worksheet that you want to download. Press on
the link and the document will open on the web site.
4. Press on Open in and a scrollable dialog will display. Scroll the window until Open in
Word appears and then press Open in Word. The document will open in Word.
Note: If this worksheet is an excel spreadsheet then Press on Open in Excel
If this worksheet is a PowerPoint presentation then Press on Open in PowerPoint.

5. To begin the upload process press the person + icon on the Word document screen and a
menu will appear. Press on the Email as Attachment.
6. Another dialog box will appear asking what format you want to upload. Select Send Word
Document.
7. An email screen will appear with the word document attached to it. Send the document to
an email account that is accessible on the iPad.

8. Open the email you just sent. You will see the attached Word Document. Press on the
attached document to open it.
9. Press the Folder icon with the arrow and a scrollable dialog box will appear. Scroll the box
until you see Open in iUploader. Press iUploader.

10. The document will open in the iUploader app. Press the Done button and the document will
close and a list of iUploader files will be displayed one of which is the worksheet we just
closed.
11. iUploader has its own web browser. You should bookmark the Blackboard login screen in
the iUploader web browser if you have not done so. If you need to navigate to the
Blackboard login screen, search for the Metro home page and select Blackboard.
12. Select Blackboard and the login screen will appear. Login to Blackboard.

13. The error screen may again appear during the login process. If so just press the Blackboard
bookmark again.

iUploader.
