Meet Lanie!

Girl of the Year® Lanie Holland loves making discoveries

in the great outdoors—even in her own backyard.

She’s an energetic girl who dreams of being an explorer,

or maybe even a wildlife biologist!

She discovers that adventures are all around us.

When Lanie and her family take a trip in their camper, the

world becomes their backyard. Her home-away-from-

home has everything she needs for adventure.

Lanie is excited to settle in at the campsite today. First she

packs a lunch for the day’s exploration. She’s going to take

a hike and track some wildlife. Maybe she’ll spot a bunny

friend for her pet rabbit, Lulu!

At the end of the night Lanie toasts marshmallows and

relaxes by the campﬁre. Crawling into bed, she looks out

the window at the starry night sky. “The big question,” she

says, “is where should I go tomorrow?”

Lanie learns there’s a world of wonder right outside her door.

You might ﬁnd Lanie making ﬁeld notes in her science journal or sketching

lengths of bricks to make Lanie’s

camper. To be sure you grab the

right one when you’re building,

line up all the rectangular bricks

on a table. Sort them by size.

feel the breeze! To do this,

make sure the C-clip pieces

are attached to both the

roof (white) and the walls

(blue). Gently tilt open the

roof until it rests on the

Building TIP

To assemble the storage rack, you’ll want

to stretch the cargo cords tight. To do

this, take a cord and attach one of its

loops to the end of one of the rack’s

bars. Now, stretch the cord diagonally

and attach the other loop to the

opposite bar the same way.

Repeat with the second cargo cord

to create an “X” across the top of the

camper. Now you and Lanie are all

set for adventure!
