There are a range of services for children and families that promote, support
and safeguard the welfare of families and young children in our community.
Each of the services listed below offers a specific service to local families.
COMMUNITY AND FAMILY HEALTH
This is a free Queensland Health Service provided by trained child health nursing
and allied health professionals.
Services available are: Child Health Drop-In Service 0-5 years; Child Health
Clinic by appointment 0-5 years; Home Visiting by referral only; Mums and Bubs
Home Visiting program; General Parenting education sessions; Positive
Parenting Program (Triple P); Circle of Security Parenting Program (COS-P);
Early Intervention Parenting Specialist Psychologist and Social Worker; Hearing
screening and assessments for 4 years to 18 years; School Based Youth Health

Round the clock access to information and support about newborns and young

Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) (PPP)
Triple P promotes positive parent-child relationships and assists in developing
effective parenting ideas for all child from 18 months to 12 years of age.

Circle of Security Parenting Program (COS-P)
Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) is a new parenting programme based on
attachment research. It aims to assist parents to create a strong connection with
their children. COS-P is an 8 week program designed to help parents recognise
how children communicate their needs, how to interpret these cues, and reflect on
how they respond to them. Program is by referral or self-referral.
Early Intervention Parenting Specialist
Early Intervention Parenting Specialists (EIPS) are Social Workers and
Psychologists who specialise in providing counselling and therapeutic parenting
support for parents of babies and children aged 0-8 years of age. Our service
offers group, individual or home visit based interventions. EIPS may also utilise
available technology to support rural families (i.e. videoconference).
School Based Youth Health Nurse Program
The Youth Health Nurse works with young people, school staff and parents within
the local hospital and health service to, promote health and wellbeing; create a
supportive, healthy school environment; connect people with other support
services.
BUNDABERG HOSPITAL—PAEDIATRIC SPEECH PATHOLOGY
GP referral required. Service for children aged birth until enrolled in education. Feeding
difficulties; speech and language disorders. Assessment and therapy (individually or in
groups). Children eligible to access this service if not eligible for any other service.

BUNDABERG CHILD AND FAMILY CENTRE
The Bundaberg Child & Family Centre, based at the Bundaberg and District
Neighborhood Centre, provides a central point for families to access support,
information or referrals to other service providers. A main focus of the program is
families with pre-school aged children. Playgroups meet at the center most weekdays
during school terms. The Centre is affiliated with Playgroup Queensland. Assistance
can be provided for new groups or support groups when the need has been
identified. Parent education, personal development sessions and group activities are
available and aim to enhance family functioning for families from all walks of life.

BUNDABERG FAMILY RELATIONSHIP CENTRE
The Bundaberg Family Relationship Centre has registered Family Dispute
Resolution Practitioners, a Child Consultant and an Indigenous Family Support
Officer to help separated parents to develop workable parenting arrangements.
They will also provide information about the effects of family separation on children
and may refer individuals to other services to access counseling or legal
information. Our staff will maintain impartiality and confidentiality throughout the
dispute resolution process while maintaining the best interests of the child as the
highest priority. The Bundaberg Family Relationship Centre has a spacious
reception area in which you will be able to find a variety of brochures, DVD’s and
booklets including community information and parenting reference material. There
are also FREE legal advice sessions and Family Law Advise sessions available
weekly while Divorce information sessions are held monthly. Bookings are
essential for all workshops.

BUSH CHILDREN'S HEALTH SCHEME

IMPACT’S POSITIVE START PARENTING PROGRAM
Positive Start Parenting is a free service for young mothers and expectant mums
aged 15-24 whose children are under pre-school age and who identify the need for
parenting assistance. The program offers one-on-one support, developing
parenting techniques, linking into other community services, mentoring, individual
and group activities, and a practical hands-on approach to parenting. IMPACT
provides a safe, comfortable child-friendly environment for mums and their
children. This is a non-referral program, but an eligibility criteria applies so if you

ISIS CHILD AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICE
Isis Child and Family Support Service is a non profit organisation sponsored by the
Office of Early Childhood Education and Care and the Bundaberg Regional Council.
The Child and Family Support Service was specifically established to provide support
for Families and Service Providers within the Childers and surrounding area.
Services are provided for families with children 0-16 years. If you are feeling isolated,
in crisis, needing extra support or information on issues relating to families, the Child
and Family Support Co-ordinator can speak with you by phone, at the centre, or in
your home/service. Programs offered are Playgroup, Toy Library, Resource Books,

ALCOHOL TOBACCO & OTHER DRUG SERVICES
Parenting a new baby can be a stressful and challenging time. If your
substance use becomes a problem for you, there is help available. Alcohol, Tobacco
and Other Drugs Service (ATODS) aims to minimise alcohol and other drug related
harm and enhance the health and wellbeing of the community. ATODs is a

Emergency Relief
The objective of Emergency Relief (ER) is to assist people in financial crisis to
deal with their immediate crisis situation in a way that maintains the dignity of
the individual and encourages self reliance.
Assistance from Emergency Relief providers to clients is primarily in the form of:
purchase vouchers of a fixed value (eg for food, transport or chemist
vouchers);
assistance with rent/accommodation;
part-payment of utility account/s;
material assistance such as food parcels or clothing; and/or appropriate
referrals to other services that help to address underlying causes of
financial crisis.

SU QLD chaplains, or ‘chappies’, provide spiritual and emotional support to school
communities. They are in the prevention and support business: Helping students find
a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness, to

presence for kids in crisis, and those who just need a friend. They also provide

CENTACARE
Counselling Programs offer therapeutic counselling provided by qualified and
experienced counsellors. Services include relationship, family, group and individual
counselling, working with children, adolescents and adults, school counselling, early
intervention services, community education and employee assistance programs. A
free family support service for parents and carers of young people aged 0-17 years
is offered in the Gin Gin and Childers communities. Pre-marriage Education is
offered to all couples from any denomination planning to be married. No referral
necessary. Our fees are on a sliding scale dependent upon income—no client is
refused a service based on an inability to pay—clients can negotiate for free
sessions or reduced fee sessions as needed

THE PYJAMA FOUNDATION
The Pyjama Foundation in the Wide Bay supports foster and kinship carers provide
extra help for our community’s most vulnerable children. Our goal is to alleviate
some of the pressure on carers in a practical way, focusing specifically on
improving the children’s literacy and numeracy skills. The Pyjama Foundation
recruits, screens, trains and supports volunteers from the community - Pyjama
Angels. Pyjama Angels are matched with a child in care and visit them once a

Kidsafe is an independent, nonprofit organisation dedicated to keeping kids out of
hospital – the prevention of unintentional injury, injury death and disability in

LET'S READ
Let's Read is a program designed to encourage parents to have fun reading with
their young children and make this part of their daily routine. It aims to develop the
building blocks that will help children learn to read and write when they get to
