1. Regulation B5.2: (Paper REG 12-13 57, April 2013 and REG 10-11 30, 19
January 2011; Paper REG 12-13 19, 27 November 2012; Paper QSC1718-39
May 2018).
Approved revised regulation:
To permit one level 7 examination in trimester one modules ACC07101
(Management Accounting) and ACC07102 (Financial Accounting) on the BA
(Hons) Accounting programme. The exemption derives from requirements of
the professional bodies (ACCA and CIMA) associated with the programme as
both professional bodies assess entirely by examination.
Period of approval:
Five years from the start of academic session 2018/19 until end of academic
session 2022-23.
2. Regulation B6.2: (Paper REG 10-11 42, 19 April 2011; REG 13-14 43, 25
March 2014; Paper QSC1819-39 April 2019)
Notwithstanding Regulation B6.2, students awaiting the outcome of
assessment in either a 60-credit or 120-credit work-based learning module can
progress to the next year of study, pending all other relevant credit has been
achieved.

3. Regulation B5.3(b): (Paper REG 10-11 43, 19 April 2011; REG 13-14 43, 25

Approved revised regulation:
To pass an SCQF level 7, 8, 9 or 10 module at the first attempt or second
attempt, a student enrolled on the BA (Hons) Accounting programme suite

must achieve a minimum module mark of 40 per cent. The module mark will be
derived from the component or components of assessment.
If only one component of assessment is used, a student must achieve a
minimum of 40 per cent in that component.
If two components of assessment are used, a student must achieve a minimum
module mark of 40 per cent based on the weighted marks achieved for each
component of assessment with no individual mark for a component of
assessment falling below 35 per cent.
There is no minimum mark requirement for individual elements of any
component of assessment.
Period of approval:
The exemption is approved for five years from the start of academic session
2019-20 to end of session 2023-24 inclusive.
4. Regulation B5.2 (Paper REG 10-11 56, April 2011; REG 13-14 43, 25 March
2014; Paper QSC(1819)9 April 2019)
Approved revised regulation
Notwithstanding Regulation B5.2, examinations are permitted on the level 7,
trimester one modules which forms part of the professional body accredited
qualifying degree of Bachelor of Laws.

The exemption is approved for five years from the start of academic session
2019-20 to end of session 2023-24 inclusive.

5. Regulations B3.15 & B3.19g (Paper REG 10-11 60; Paper REG 11-12 47;
REG 13- 14 43, 25 March 2014; Paper QS(1819)39 April 2019)
To enable students enrolled on BA (Hons) Financial Services (Hong Kong) PT
and FT to graduate with honours without completion of a dissertation or final
year project.
Period of approval:
The exemption is approved for five years from the start of academic session
2019-20 to end of session 2023-24 inclusive.
6. Regulation B6.2 (Paper REG 10-11 61, April 2011; REG 13-14 43, 25 March
2014; Paper QSC1819-39 April 2019)
Students enrolled on a programme of study delivered overseas would not have
had the opportunity to undertake reassessment before the programme board of
examiners meets after the second trimester of study to review their progress. A
list of the programmes exempt is listed in appendix 3.
A student who has not had the opportunity to undertake a reassessment
opportunity in the module can proceed to the first trimester of the next stage of
study.
The ‘PS’ decision for students studying on overseas programmes delivered
over three consecutive trimesters has been introduced.
Period of approval:
The exemption is approved for five years from the start of academic session
2019-20 to end of session 2023-24 inclusive.
7. Regulation A4.5 (Approved by Convenor’s Action, July 2019)
Students who enrolled onto the Edinburgh Napier Online MBA (Southpoint)
programme by 2019/20, and on successful completion, proceeded directly onto
the (Southpoint) Online MSc Business Management programme, are permitted
to have up to 80 credit exemptions for the MSc programme (excluding the
dissertation).
Period of approval:
The approval period will be from academic session 2019-20 to end of academic
session 2021/22.
School of Engineering and the Built Environment
1. Regulation B3.17 (Paper REG 11-12 31, 28 February 2012; Paper QS
(1920)46, 27 April 2020)
Approved revised regulation:
The calculation of the classification of Honours will be based on 240 credits, to
include all 120 credits in stage 4 and all 120 credits at stage 3. Average marks
for modules in stage 3 will be weighted 0.30 and average marks for modules at
stage 4 will be weighted 0.70.
This exemption will apply to students on the following programmes:

2. Regulations B6.2 and B6.3 (Paper QS(17/18)49, 3 May 2018 and Paper
QS(18/19)03, 20 September 2018):
Approved revised regulations:
To proceed to stage 3 of study, a student on the BEng (Hons) Mechanical
Engineering (GXUST) must pass all 220 credits from the preceding stage
(stage 2), carrying no failed credits. Students will be required to pass 140
credits at the end of stage 3 to make up the shortfall of credits at stage 2.
In accordance with Regulation B6.3, a Programme Assessment Board may
award a student enrolled on an SCQF level 7, 8, 9 or 10 module a
compensatory pass to the maximum of 20 credits. However, this will not apply
to stage 2 of study for these students.
This exemption will apply to students on the BEng (Hons) Mechanical
Engineering (GXUST).
Period of approval:
The exemption is approved retrospectively for five years from the start of
academic session 2017/18 to the end of academic session 2021/22 inclusive.
3. Regulation B6.3 (Approved by Convenor’s Action, July 2019)
Approved revised regulation:
In accordance with Regulation A11.2.8e) a Programme Assessment Board may
award a student enrolled on an SCQF level 7,8,9 or 10 module a compensatory
pass to the maximum of 20 credits over the course of the programme of study
for programmes accredited by the Engineering Council. This applies as
follows:
Sep 2019 new Year 1 students
Sep 2020 year 2 direct entry students and students returning from suspended
studies into stage 2
Sep 2021 year 3 direct entry students and students returning from suspended
studies into stage 3
Sep 2022 year 4 direct entry student and students returning from suspended
studies into year 4; students progressing onto stage 5 of MEng programmes
and students returning from suspended studies into stage 5.
This exemption will apply to the following programmes:

1. Regulation B5.7, (Paper Q&S(16/17)46)
The regulation exemption pertains to students studying overseas over three
trimesters and refers to reassessment. Approved amendments in bold:
B5.7b) For students studying on programmes which are delivered over
three continuous trimesters reassessment must be provided and
taken within three trimesters of the original attempt. Early
reassessment opportunities could be offered by the Board.
B5.7e) Only for programmes delivered over three continuous trimesters,
Programme Boards of Examiners may request that students who
have more than 20 credits pending do not progress to the next stage
but instead pause their studies for a trimester to take their
reassessments.

The regulation exemption pertains to students studying on the following

Pharmaceutical and Analytical Science Sep 2021 (Paper QS(21/22)08 and

Approved revised regulations as follows:
B5.3 To pass an SCQF level 7,8,9 or 10 module on the Masters in
Pharmaceutical & Analytical Sciences at the first attempt, a student
must achieve a minimum module mark of 50 per cent. The module
mark will be derived from the component or components of
assessment.
a) If only one component of assessment is used, a student must
achieve a minimum of 50 per cent in that component.
b) If two components of assessment are used, a student must
achieve a minimum module mark of 50 per cent based on the
weighted marks achieved for each component of assessment
with no individual mark for a component of assessment falling
below 40 per cent.
c) There is no minimum mark requirement for individual elements of
any component of assessment
B5.5 A student enrolled on an SCQF level 7,8,9 or 10 on the Masters in
Pharmaceutical & Analytical Sciences programme will be entitled to
one single reassessment opportunity in that module.
a) If only one component of assessment is used, a student who
does not meet the requirements of Regulation B5.3a) will be
reassessed in that component.
b) If two components of assessment are used, a student who does
not meet the requirements of Regulation B5.3b) will be
reassessed in any component where a mark of 50 per cent has
not been achieved.
c) In providing students with the opportunity to make good any initial
assessment failure account will be taken of Regulations A7.11,
A7.12 and A7.13
B5.6 To pass at reassessment, a student enrolled on an SCQF level 7, 8,
9 or 10 module on the Masters in Pharmaceutical & Analytical
Sciences programme must achieve a minimum overall module mark
of 50 per cent.
a) If only one component of reassessment is used, a student must
achieve a minimum mark of 50 per cent in that component.
b) If two components of reassessment are used, a student must
achieve a minimum module mark of 50 per cent based on the
weighted marks achieved for each component of reassessment
with no individual mark for a component of reassessment falling
below 40 per cent. The weightings between the two components
used for the reassessment will be identical to those used for the
original assessment.
c) Where a student achieved an original minimum component mark
of 50 per cent in one of the two components of assessment, the
overall module mark at reassessment will be calculated in
accordance with Regulation B5.6b) using the original component
mark and the component mark achieved at reassessment.
d) Where a student achieves a lower mark in a reassessed
component than that achieved in the original assessment, the
original mark will stand and the lower mark, from the
reassessment, discounted.
e) The overall mark for a reassessed module will be capped at 50
per cent.
B5.7 In accordance with regulations B5.5 a student enrolled on a SCQF
level 7, 8, 9 or 10 module will be entitled to one reassessment
opportunity in that module.
a) For the Masters in Pharmaceutical & Analytical Sciences
programme a compulsory reassessment opportunity is provided in
the trimester immediately following the trimester in which the module
was delivered.
b) Until the compulsory reassessment opportunity occurs the
credits not achieved at original assessment are classified as pending
reassessment credit and not failed credit.
B5.9 Unless approved otherwise via the University’s module approval
process, all coursework, both at first attempt and reassessment,
submitted after the agreed deadline will be marked at a maximum of
50 per cent. Coursework submitted over five working days after the
agreed deadline will be given 0 per cent, although formative
feedback will be offered to the student where requested.
B5.10 Students on the Masters in Pharmaceutical & Analytical Sciences
programme who do not pass an SCQF level 7,8,9 or 10 module at
first attempt, or at reassessment are not permitted to repeat the
module.
B6.2 To progress to stage 2 of study and undertake SCQF Level 11
modules, students on the Masters in Pharmaceutical & Analytical
Sciences programme must pass all SCQF Level 7, 8, 9 and 10
modules.
B6.3 Notwithstanding Regulations A11.8 e) compensatory passes at
Levels 7,8,9 and 10 are not available for students on the Masters in
Pharmaceutical & Analytical Sciences programme.

3. BSc Nursing (Singapore) (QS(16/17)28 (December 2016) Exemptions were
sought for the following regulations:
B3.19 The minimum number and level of credit to be achieved by a student
whilst registered as a student of Edinburgh Napier University having
entered a programme of study with recognised prior learning and
before being presented for an award of the University listed in
Regulation A4.1a), b) and e) is as follows:

e) A bachelor’s degree will be awarded to a student who has met
the requirements of Regulation B3.8, satisfied all programme-
specific requirements and achieved a minimum of 60 credits at
SCQF level 9 or above.
f) A bachelor’s degree with distinction will be awarded to a
student who has met the requirements of Regulation B3.9,
satisfied all programme-specific requirements and achieved a
minimum overall average of at least 65 per cent across all of
the 60 credits. If more than the minimum of 60 credits has been
achieved, the distinction calculation will be based on an overall
average of at least 65 per cent in the best 60 credits achieved
at SCQF level 9 or above.
B3.10 A graduate certificate will be awarded to a student who has
satisfied the requirements of Regulation B4.4, all programme-
specific requirements and gained a minimum of 60 credits at SCQF
level 9 or above.
B3.11 A graduate certificate with distinction will be awarded to a student
who has achieved an overall average of at least 65 per cent in the
best 60 credits achieved from SCQF level 9 or above modules, if the
approved programme structure permits.
B3.12 A graduate diploma will be awarded to a student who has satisfied
the requirements of Regulation B4.4, all programme-specific
requirements and gained a minimum of 120 credits at SCQF level 9
or above.
B3.13 A graduate diploma with distinction will be awarded to a student
who has achieved an overall average of at least 65 per cent in the
best 120 credits achieved from SCQF level 9 or above modules, if
the approved programme structure permits.
Approved wording:
A BSc Nursing (Singapore) degree will be awarded to a student who has
satisfied all programme specific requirements and gained a minimum of 160
credits at SCQF level 9.
Period of Approval
The exemption and replacement bespoke regulation were approved for a
period of five year from academic session 2017/18 to the end of academic year
2022-23.
4. Regulations C5.4 and C5.6 PG Cert Learning Teaching & Assessment
Practice in Higher Education
May 2018 (Paper QSC(1819)39; Paper QSC1920.46, 27 April 2020; Paper
QSC(20/21)39))
Approved revised regulation:
C5.4 To pass at the first attempt the module Learning, Teaching and
Assessment Practice in Higher Education (EDU11160) a student
must achieve a pass grade in each element of assessment
associated with this module. This module is delivered on the PgC
Learning, Teaching and Assessment Practice in Higher Education
programme.
C5.6 To pass at reassessment, a student enrolled on the module
Learning, Teaching and Assessment Practice in Higher Education
(EDU11160) must achieve a pass grade. The module grade will be
derived from the elements of assessment.
a) A pass must be achieved in all elements of re-assessment.
b) Where a student achieved an original pass grade in a number
of the elements of assessment, the overall module grade at
reassessment will be calculated in accordance with Regulation
C5.6b) using the original element grade and the element grade
achieved at reassessment.
Period of Approval
Until the end of academic session 2021-2022.
5. Regulations A2.4, A7.13 and C5.2 in respect of the Independent &
Supplementary Prescribing for Healthcare Professionals programme (40-credit
module) which is often also undertaken by students on Advanced Clinical
Practice;
April 2020 (Paper QSC 1920.46, 27 April 2020)
The Independent & Supplementary Prescribing for Healthcare Professionals
programme is comprised of a single 40 credit module which includes two
components.  The exemption from the following regulations enables this
programme to comply with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery
Council:
A2.4 The University allows students to continue their studies for as long
as they are considered to be able to benefit and succeed. This is
achieved by basing continuation of study regulations and awards of
the University on outcomes and attainment related to the
accumulation of credit linked to levels, not on years of study.
A7.13 Once passed a candidate cannot demand to retake an assessment
or repeat a module in order to improve their result, irrespective of
extenuating circumstances
and
C5.2 To pass an SCQF level 11 module at the first attempt, a student
must achieve a minimum grade of P1 on the Master’s Grading
Scale. b) If two components are used the module grade will be
based on the weighted grades achieved for each component of
assessment, and no individual grade for a component of assessment
may fall below a grade of F1 on the Master’s Grading Scale. 
Approved revised regulation:
A2.4 Students must complete the programme within two academic years.
Should a student fail to do so, they are required to reapply and start
the programme again, as if for the first time, regardless of
assessments completed and passed to date.
C5.2 NMC requirements determine the threshold pass for the
assessments which comprise one of the components (100% and
80%). This component must be passed, but has a zero weighting in
terms of the module grade, which is based solely on the grade
achieved for the second component assessed in accordance with
Section C of the regulations.

6. Regulations C5.4 and C5.6 PG Cert Teaching & Supporting Learning in
Higher Education

Approved revised regulation:
C5.2 To pass at the first attempt, a student on the Introduction to
Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education module,
Developing as a Critical Educator module, or Being a Critically
Reflective Educator module must achieve a pass grade in each
element of assessment associated with these modules which are
delivered on the PG Certificate in Teaching and Supporting Learning
in Higher Education.
C5.6 To pass at reassessment, a student enrolled on the Introduction to
Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education module,
Developing as a Critical Educator module, or Being a Critically
Reflective Educator module must achieve a pass grade. The
module grade will be derived from the elements of assessment.
a) A pass must be achieved in all elements of reassessment.
b) Where a student achieved an original pass grade in a number
of the elements of assessment, the overall module grade at
reassessment will be calculated in accordance with Regulation
C5.6b) using the original element grade and the element grade
achieved at reassessment.
It should be noted that as modules are competence-based and
marked as pass/fail, compensatory passes are not available for
students on the PG Certificate in Teaching & Supporting Learning in
Higher Education.

For session 2021-22 to end of academic year 2025/26.
School of Computing
1. Regulations B3.14, B5.3, B5.5, B5.7 and B5.7b BSc (Hons) Cyber Security
Programme Feb 2021 (Paper QSC(20/21)30)
The regulation exemption pertains to the End Point Assessment on the above
programme of study.
Current regulations are as follows:
B3.14 A bachelor’s degree with honours will be awarded to a student who
has satisfied all programme-specific requirements and gained a
minimum of 480 credits of which:
a) a minimum of 100 credits are at SCQF level 10, of which a
minimum of 40 credits are derived from a dissertation or final year
project and in addition
b) a minimum of 80 credits are at SCQF level 9 or above, and in
addition
c) a minimum of 120 credits are at SCQF level 8 or above.
B5.3 To pass an SCQF level 7.8.9 or 10 module at the first attempt, a
student must achieve a minimum module mark of 40 per cent. The
module mark will be derived from the component or components of
assessment.
B5.5 A student enrolled on SCQF level 7.8.9 or 10 module will be entitled
to one reassessment opportunity in that module. In exceptional
circumstances a Programme Assessment Board has the discretion
to permit one further reassessment opportunity.
Approved amendments as follows:
B3.14 A bachelor’s degree with honours in BSc Cyber Security will be
awarded to a student who has satisfied all programme-specific
requirements and gained a minimum of 490 credits of which 10
credits comprise the End Point Assessment. In addition:
a) a minimum of 100 credits are at SCQF level 10, of which a
minimum of 40 credits are derived from a dissertation or final
year project and in addition
b) a minimum of 80 credits are at SCQF level 9 or above, and in
addition
c) a minimum of 120 credits are at SCQF level 8 or above.
B5.3 To pass the 20-credit End Point Assessment module on the BSc
Cyber Security programme at the first attempt, a student must
achieve a pass grade. The End Point Assessment module will be
marked as fail, pass, pass with merit or pass with distinction.
B5.5 A student enrolled on the 20-credit End Point assessment module
will be entitled to a reassessment opportunity should the
reassessment be as a result of extenuating circumstances or with
the exceptional approval of the Programme Assessment Board and
employer.
The End Point Assessment module is exempt from the following regulations:
B5.7 In accordance with regulation B5.5 a student enrolled on a SCQF level
7, 8, 9 or 10 module will be entitled to one reassessment opportunity in
that module.
a) Regardless of the trimester a module is taken in and the
programme start date a compulsory reassessment opportunity is
provided in the July following delivery of the module, with the
exception of modules within programmes delivered over three
continuous trimesters.
b) For students studying on programmes which are delivered over
three continuous trimesters, reassessment must be provided and
taken within two trimesters of the original attempt.
