NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
Recent Advancements in Statistics and Their Applications to Society
(March 23-25, 2017)
This National Conference will bring together statisticians from diverse sectors who will address
the recent advancements in the fields of Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Statistics, Probability,
and their application areas to fulfill the needs of the society, nation and world at large. The
researchers, professionals, educators and students from academia, industries, government, and
research institutes will discuss the latest developments and challenges in statistical methods and
application.
We are organizing this conference in the honor of Professor David D. Hanagal who is
retiring on April 30, 2017 after 29 years of dedicated, valuable and fruitful service in the
Department of Statistics & Centre for Advanced Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University. On
this occasion, there will be felicitation function for Professor David D. Hanagal on 24
th
March
2017 around 5 pm. All are invited to attend this felicitation function.
The topics of the conference include, but are not limited to:

Authors are invited to contribute their research papers in contributory sessions and send the soft

scheduled date.

Please send the filled registration form with demand draft (DD) drawn in favor of
“Finance & Accounts Officer, Savitribai Phule Pune University” and payable at Pune towards
the registration fee. Delegates are requested to send DD through any nationalized bank. Please
send the registration form and DD to Convener, International Conference, Department of

About Pune
Pune, a historic city, is popularly known as the cultural and education capital
ofMaharashtra state in India. It is also recognized as a hub for automobile andIT industries. It is
home to numerous educational and research institutes ofrepute, including National Chemical

How to reach
Pune is well connected by air, road and rail network.
Air
Pune has direct flights to and from many domestic as well as some internationaldestinations.
Pune airport is located at Lohegaon at a distance of 15 kms fromthe Pune University
Campus.The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at Mumbai is about 175 kms(~110 miles)
away and it takes about 3.5 hrs to reach Pune from Mumbaithrough express way. Registered AC
cabs also run between Mumbai airportand Pune. Those who arrive at Mumbai airport can take
pre-paid taxi and the counter is inside the airport and come to Pune directly.
Rail
There are daily and weekly trains connecting Pune to all major cities in Indiaincluding Mumbai,
New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad,Ahmedabad and many more.
Road
Pune is well connected by a good road network connecting it to various citiesand towns across
India. Various government as well as private agencies offerdaily bus services to various
destinations in the state of Maharashtra and theneighbouring states. Cool cabs (Registered taxis)
run between Pune andMumbai.
Travel within the city
Wing radio cabs and metered autorickshaws (three wheelers) can be hired for travelwithin the
city. The state-run city bus services are also available, but may becrowded many a times. The
organizers would make travel arrangement fromthe place of accommodation to the conference
venue.

around Pune. The sites of interest in the city include Shaniwarwada, Kelkar Museum, Aga Khan
Palace, Katraj Zoological Park, Parvati, etc.
